Ruddington’s community spirit is shining brightly this festive season, with another village initiative launched this week to help cash-strapped families and individuals cope with the spiralling cost of… virtually everything!
Called ‘Pay What You Can’, it’s the idea of village centre trader Sarah Burton (pictured) from Phoenix Flowers. She explains: “With the cost of living, and Christmas coming up, I know a lot of families must be stressed and struggling right now. I was going through some bits to donate to charity the other day but had an idea… what if we could let people have these items to take away as gifts, if they’re worried about costs?”
She and mum Sally have now put her brainwave into practice on a dedicated table by the doorway of their High Street premises. “We’ve put out some items, free for passers by, with no judgement. For those able to make a cash donation, we’ll give it to The Ruddington Pantry.”
Contributions of good quality items – such as unwanted gifts from last year, perhaps – to place on their ‘Pay What You Can’ table, up until Christmas, are also being welcomed. You can pop these into the shop during opening hours, call Sarah on 0115 921 2300, or message Phoenix Flowers via their social media channels.
You can find the award winning Ruddington florists’ shop at 24C High Street. It’s open Mondays to Saturdays from 9.00am to 3.00pm.
